Testif-i Software Support Programme Sandwich Box - "No response from VAU-8" |
|||
Testif-i Software Support ProgrammeWhat does the Software Support Programme give me? The Testif-i Software Support Programme entitles subscribers to unlimited technical support (by phone and email during UK office hours). Subscribers are also entitled to free software and dongle upgrades as they are released. The subscription
is renewable annually and can be on a per dongle or per company basis.
Dongle upgradesWhy must I obtain a dongle upgrade, and how do I get one? Testif-i software can not be used without an activated dongle. A dongle must be upgraded when its time limit has expired or a new software release (i.e. a change in version number) is obtained. A code may be obtained from Verif-i to upgrade the dongle (note that there may be a charge for this if you are not a member of the Software Support Programme). If you require an upgrade the first step is to run the Check Dongle module within Testif-i and click the Save button to save the dongle details to a text file. Send this text file along with details of your upgrade requirements to Verif-i. info@verif-i.com Verif-i will supply an upgrade code which includes: 1. A summary of the changes to be performed by the upgrade 2. An upgrade Customer Code 3. An upgrade Confirmation Code On receiving
an upgrade code the user should check the Changes Made to ensure that
the upgrade is suitable.
Dongle problemsWhat is wrong with my dongle? Check your dongle according to the instructions below (version dependant) Testif-i
2 - Launch Testif-i and run the "Check Dongle" module from the
Utilities group within Testif-i. The following error codes may commonly be encountered: error
20 - This programme is not included in this dongle. error
25 - The dongle expiry date has been reached error
28 - Dongle not found
Testif-i version numbersWhat is the significance of the version number on Testif-i software? Testif-i releases are all identified by a unique code e.g. 112e The number determines the release number and the letter indicates the update level. New releases include extra features and have to be paid for. Members of the Software Support Programme can obtain new releases free of charge. Each new release (i.e. number change) requires that the dongle be upgraded using a code supplied by Verif-i. Updates are generally bug fixes for the software and free to all users. Any update level for a given release can be run without upgrading the dongle.
SCSI devicesWhy are no SCSI devices listed (Windows systems)? Testif-i uses ASPI (Advanced SCSI Programming Interface) to communicate with the SCSI bus. ASPI software is supplied by the SCSI controller card manufacturer (e.g. Adaptec) and should be loaded on the Windows operating system to enable Testif-i to communicate with tape drives. As a quick check the file wnaspi32.dll will be placed in the directory C:\Windows\System32 when ASPI is loaded by 32 bit Windows operating systems (note that this is a hidden directory).
Testif-i loading problemsWhy won't Testif-i load on my PC (Windows)? For certain PC setups (especially Laptops) removing the SCSI controller card when ASPI is installed can prevent Testif-i from loading. The symptom for this is that the Testif-i main menu is not displayed when the programme is launched. A workaround for this is to temporarily disable ASPI when the SCSI card is removed from the system. This can be achieved by renaming the file wnaspi32.dll in the directory C:\Windows\System32 (e.g. to wnaspi.dl_) and rebooting the PC. Remember to reverse the process when the SCSI card is reinstalled.
Sandwich Box - Parallel Port Version- "No response from VAU-8"Why do I get the message "No response from VAU-8" when I launch the Sandwich Box software? The Sandwich Box software communicates with the hardware through the parallel port. When the software is launched it tries to establish contact with the hardware. If this is not possible the above error message is produced. Please check the following: 1. The sandwich box is connected to the PC parallel port using the suppplied cable (note that all 25 pins are connected in this cable - some cables look similar but are intended for serial ports and do not have all pins connected). 2. Ensure that the hardware has 12 V power supplied to it and is switched on. 3. The parallel port must have bi-directional data transfer enabled (i.e. the port is Bi-directional, EPP or ECP in the PC BIOS). 4. Check that the parallel port driver is installed by clicking on Drivers.exe in the Sandwich directory in Program Files folder (see the Sandwich Box manual for further details). |
